Five known followings of the higher powers have sprung up on Kyrandor to praise and do the bidding of their ruler. Those in Kyrandor who choose not to follow any of the main religions see these five each as guilds, despite their religious affiliations. Some even begin to praise a certain diety in order to learn the abilities offered.
The five main churches of Kyrandor include:
Knights of the Sun: Worshipers of the Jaylin, god of the sun.
Steeped highly in tradition, the church of the sun has not said to have changed policy in nearly a thousand years. While there are very minimal requirements to follow Jaylin, in order to call one's self a knight of the sun, one way required to train from the age of ten. For the next three years of their lives, they are expected to learn the scriptures, and have them down, almost by heart. At the end of their third year, they are tested. If a student does not pass, they are allowed another year to study. If again they do not pass, it is thought that they did not have the self disipline to be a knight.
From that point on in their lives, the Knights of the Sun are expected to live by the 5 codes of light, which are.
1. Remember that you fight for Jaylin, not for yourself in battle.
2. Make sure to pray to Jaylin at least twice a day, at sunrise and sunset in order to keep a strong relationship with your faith.
3. Do not covet material goods.
4. Never succumb to the use of other types of magick. Does not the lord of the sun give you all you need?
5. You are not alone in your faith. Make sure to strengthen other's beliefs, and never kill another follower of the Sun Lord.
At the age of thirteen, the young men and women are brought to an alter in seclussion (2 currently exist: one in the deserts of the northern Wilde, and the other in the mountains of Horate. From there they are taught rigorous rituals in order to increase strength, stamina, and agility before they begin learning with a weapon. Their weapons are chosen for them based on aptitude, rather than personal preference. For ten years, they train in these secluded areas until they turn 20, when they are each given Jaylin's blessing and sent out into the world.
Guardians of the Earth Mother: Protectors of the planet itself.
Despite their noble nature, Guardians of the eath mother are often looked down on by others. They are nearly the most prevalaint group on all of Kyrandor because there are nearly no qualifications. The Guardians of the eath mother are open to new comers as long as those looking to join have a respect for the earth around them.
Because of the relatively relaxed nature of the guardians, they are as varied as they are numerous in their talents with the earth. From druids and earth witches, to hunters, rangers and herbalists, the earth mother has dispersed her gifts in many ways.
Among the most frowned upon groups are those who use completely wild magic to create a spiritual bond between man and beast. It is said that neither entirely knows that such a connection is going to form. Those who are "blessed" with this magic become almost one with their animals. They share thoughts on a very intimate level. A common mistake that most people make is that their union takes a sexual nature, creating Leko (or Neko) however this is very frowned apon. Bands of these wild magic users have been found in hidden camps in almost any forest throughout Kyrandor; though they are constantly moving, in fear of discovery and inevitable death at the hands of others.
Disciples of the Void: Those who try to subtly control others in order to feed the void... knowingly or not.
Newest of the five major religions, it is by far the fastest growing due to its appeal. It has actually been embraced by many due to mankind's power-hungry nature. It is said that the void actually speaks directly to all of its members, promising them their greatest desires; though much of this is actually demon making these promises. Deep within the core of Kyrandor the void creates its minions.
Masters of the darkest arts known to Kyrandor, those who follow the void are given immortality... often long past the desire to have such things. The guild openly teaches the art of killing with magic, as well as the undoing and escape from death... though consequences are often severe, and the cost is the user's soul.
Dragon’s Star: Followers of the Five Dragons.
Often known as the dragon riders, the trust to ride dragons has been formed by a respect, and rightful awe for these creatures. There is a gread deal of awe for members of the Dragon's Star, much of that awe comes from the mystery that shrouds them.
Priests of the Moon: Followers of Wreathyn.
