Religion and Magic
The Divine Host:
These are the panthron of deities that played a part in the creation of the Kyrandor and its inhabitants, as well as those demi-gods created by the twins.
The Creator (Lyath)-He is the creator of almost all the sentient life on Kyrandor. Lyath had a hand in bringing life in all its forms from the smallest bug to the largest dragon. Whenever something new is brought into this world is can attributed to Lyath’s power. He is also the father of the twin gods Jaylin and Wreathyn. He created the Ikorid to watch over the Earth Mother and protect Kyrandor.
The Caretaker (Ameraia)-She is the maker of the planet of Kyrandor itself and every tree or blade of grass, every mountain or pebble pays homage to her. Without her there would have been no planet for Lyath to infuse with life forms or magic. She is also the mother the god twins Jaylin and Wreathyn.
The Twins (Jaylin and Wreathyn)-They are the son and daughter of Ameraia and Lyath. At their birth the elves were made in celebration. And when they were old enough they created the Dre’nai and Suliwei to worship them and increase their own power. And once again there was balance and light and dark. Jaylin is the darker minded of the two while Wreathyn is the kinder and it shows in their creations.
The Demi-Gods-A group of lesser gods created by the two angry twins after their battle was concluded on earth. Their purpose was to continue the god’s battle in the heavens. But where as worship strengthens the gods but is not needed for them to sustain themselves or their powers, it is required that these demi-gods be worshiped somehow or they will slowly weaken and die. The four demi-gods were masters of earth, water, fire, and wind.
Mica, lord of the earth was the last of the demi gods created. He was made, by Wreathyn, to protect the earth mother. He is said to have a very consistant, steady personality, slow to anger, and reliable to friends/followers. Many ask for his blessing for fertillity and a steadfast marriage.
Yukya, lady of the sea, was the first created demi god, made by Wreathyn to care for the Dre'nai. She is slow to anger, but her anger is as fierce as the sea. The Dre'nai boast that she is beautiful. She has many statues in her honor. Wreathyn has also been considered the goddess of music.
Ramaporea, first created by Jaylin, is lord of the skies. Often believed to be the lord of dance, performers often leave trinkets at his temple in hopes of his blessing. Of the four demi gods, he is the most ellussive.
Ramaporea was born after Jaylin took mortal form and made love to one of his followers. After the child was born, both he and the child disapeared from the mortal realms for the next fifteen years. Despite Ramaporea wanting to see his mother, he was never allowed to do so. When he was finally allowed to return to Kyrandor, his mother was on her death bed.
Yuyoshio, god of fire, was the second god created. With a quick and often violent temper. He was the last to give up fighting against the earth creatures, commanding his followers to continue attacking. Yuyushio has a jealous nature. Farmers often donate money to this demi god to prevent any harm to their crops.
The Earth Mother-The Earth mother is the mind of the planet. When the planet was created by Ameraia it was filled with plant life but nothing sentient. Then when Lyath infused the planet with life and magic all things living on the planet became linked in a web of conciousness unbeknownst to any of them. Trillions upon trillions of creatures thinking and living and feeling all into the same web of thought gave birth to the being called the Earth Mother. In essence she is really an elemental with the mind and powers of one of the gods. When she was discovered by Ameraia and Lyath she was accepted as daughter told to watch and care for Kyrandor. She is the one who created the elves in celebration of the twins birth and secretly taught humans and other species how to access her power in hopes that they would use it to combat The Void in places she could not.
The Void-Where there is light there must also be darkness. So as the Earth Mother was born The Void came into existence as the darker collective thoughts and feelings of the creatures of the planet. But after observing the Earth Mother and the gods in secret it realized that it, as something that would be defined as evil, would not be welcome with open arms. So it stayed hidden and began implementing plans that would increase its power far beyond that of its creators or anyone else’s and bides its time.
The Five Cosmic Dragons- Dragons are one of the oldest races on Kyrandor and yet were never the chosen of the gods. This rankled the dragons somewhat and they began to learn the study of magic to prove themselves to the gods and earn their favor. The Five Dragons are a group of dragons who worked hard enough and lived long enough to gain immortality and powers only slightly weaker than the gods children Jaylin and Wreathyn. The gods then welcomed them into the heavens.
Knights of the Sun: Worshipers of the Jaylin, god of the sun.
Guardians of the Earth Mother: Protectors of the planet itself.
Disciples of the Void: Those who try to subtly control others in order to feed the void... knowingly or not.
Dragon’s Star: Followers of the Five Dragons.
Priests of the Moon: Followers of Wreathyn.
Magic:
Magic is the heart and soul of everything on Kyrandor. It played a part in the planets conception and every creature on its birth. All things on Kyrandor are linked by some form of magic or the other. Magic led to the creation of the Earth Mother and The Void. But there are two at least three different types of magic to be found on Kyrandor.
Divine Magic-This is magic that uses the gods as a power source. Normally used by preist or paladins but can be accessed by any god-created race if their faith is strong enough. Divine magic is best when used in spells that are its specialty. So if drawing energy for a fire spell from the goddess of water then the spells effectiveness will be limited, unlike if you drew energy for the same spell from the god of the fire. Only the elder races (Ikorid, Dragons) still worship Lyath and Ameraia. But that doesn’t mean that they’re powers are in anyway dimished because their gods backs are turned. And they’re energies can be used to fuel just about ANY kind of spell effectively turning them into highly adept magic users.
Earth Magic-Contrary to popular belief, earth magic is not related to earth spells. Earth magic is simply magic that draws on the ambient magical energy present in ones self and everything else on Kyrandor to fuel spellcraft. In a pinch the earth mother herself can be called on to lend aid. Earth magic can really include any range of spells. The range is only limited to the user’s imagination and what the users mind and body can handle. Drawing too much earth energy into a body that cannot handle it or a mind that cannot fully control it will destroy the user. So you won’t see many humans if any casting spells of the same magnitude as a dragon or a Ikorid, both of which were created to use magic on a large scale.
Void Magic-Earth energy is pure. It’s a simple rule. But in order for the Earth Mother to create and maintain that pureness all the negative magical energy must be removed ands sent somewhere. That is where The Void comes in. Its power is drawn from the negative energy created when magic is used for purposes besides life giving and protection. It is drawn from dark thoughts and dark deeds. And with the events of the Last great War and the current state of affairs on Kyrandor the power of Void Magic is growing. Users of Void magic will find that their jack of all trade powers are slightly more effective than the same jack of all trade abilities of Earth Magic users. But at a high cost. Their physical forms slowly take on a more sinister appearance and slowly began to appear to degrade as if the person is sick although in reality they are still the same as normal people. Other consequences include a greater strain on the body and mind when drawing on Void magic and with prolonged use they take on a dark magical aura easily visible to paladins of the Divine Host. Due to Void magic’s close similarity to Earth Magic only someone well trained can easily spot the aura but even to those not well versed in the arts of Earth Magic there are still magical signs. Creatures created through Void Magic (Vampires, Demons, Siren etc.) Give off more signs although it is rumored that master vampires and high class demons can hide their magical auras completey from all but the strongest paladins.
